101 New Things Update

This post is an update to my post of 101 New Things for 2021. In that post I was up to 18 on my list. I have since added the following:

  1.   Sincerely Coffee
  2.   Bingo Hall
  3.   Waldo’s Pizza in KC
  4.   Second Best Coffee KC
  5.   Evel Knievel Museum
  6.   Joes BBQ KC
  7.   Messenger Coffee in KC
  8.   Top Golf
  9.   Columbian food
My favorite new thing on this list was the Evel Knievel Museum. In my post about taking risks, I wrote about how he was my hero when I was a young boy. I found out about the museum while researching that post and knew I had to make a visit. The museum is attached to a Harley Davidson dealership in Topeka, KS. It was worth the trip. The museum was well done and had many original items including motorcycles, leather suits and his semi truck and trailer. It also has a lot of cool memorabilia and personal stories about Knievel. As a kid, I just knew he jumped things on a motorcycle. Now after the museum, I discovered he was part crook, part conman, part showman and a daredevil. If you are ever passing through the area, I highly recommend a visit.

My wife and I enjoyed the Bingo also. We have played on a cruise ship and played as kids but we had never been to an actual bingo hall. It was very fast paced and we enjoyed it but we will probably stick to the bingo on cruise ships in the future.

Another one I really enjoyed was a trip to Top Golf with my son and son-in-law. I'm terrible at golf and just as terrible at Top Golf. It was a lot of fun playing the different golf scoring games while hanging out with two great guys.

So, I now sit at 27 new things done out of 101. I still have a long way to go. And, the sardines I had purchased to try as a new thing got moved from the kitchen island to the pantry. I still hope to get up the courage to give them a try!

  1. Mitch, try the sardines! My husband once scolded me for taking sardine sandwiches (prepared like a tuna salad) to work, saying, "Geez, you work in a health unit not a lumber camp!"

  2. My bucket list got put on hold for over a year. (Thanks, pandemic!) Now that we’ve gotten our shots it’s time to pull it out again. PS You should only eat sardines in private and especially not on enclosed public transportation, such as the London subway. Think picnic! That’s the voice of experience speaking. Haha

    1. Thanks for the sardines advice! My wife has already told me that I am not opening that can in the house. Apparently her dad liked sardines and she can't stand the smell.

  3. It sounds like you've added a nice combination of food, drink, and experiences to your list.

    1. Yes, a good variety. There is no way I could have 101 new things each be a major activity, so I will have a mixture of things through the year. I figure any new thing that I try will add a little spice to the year!

  4. Hi Mitch,
Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. It led me to your blog.

I collect souvenir pins (or some call them hat pins). Being an RVer, I do not want to collect something big. My pin collection is displayed on quilted hanging fabric wherever we have room on our walls in our home-base manufactured home. I collect them as a reminder of all the cool places we've been, and also the collection contains the AVA: America's Walking Club pins that I have earned throughout 28 years of doing the club walks around the U.S.

When we lived in a large house, I collected art fish to hang on the walls of a particularly large bedroom with a vaulted ceiling. The bedroom was painted a medium blue and the fish looked cool hanging in the water-colored room. Now that we live in a single-wide manufactured home, those fish stare down at you in both of our bathrooms. LOL.

And good on you for trying new things. Got to keep those brain synapses firing!

    1. Souvenir pins are a great idea and space saving. I do a similar things with collecting a magnet from places we visit. I like the small space they take up and it is easy to glance at them and remember the cool places I've visited recently.

  5. P.S. As far as new experiences go, my walking bucket list had a goal of walking in all 51 U.S. capital cities (and touring as many of the Capitol buildings as I could). I finished that goal in 2020 in Helena, Montana! It took me seven years to get to all of them!

I only have 48 pages of bucket list left. Some pages can be deleted because I have crossed out items still on my list so I can see my progress.

    1. Great accomplishment on the walking goal! I think every time I mark something off my list, I think of one or two things to add.

  6. Good luck with the sardines. My husband loves them and has offered to share throughout our 30+ years of marriage. I’ve never plucked up the courage to accept, either.

    1. I think you either love them or hate them. I'll find out as soon as I get the courage to try them!
